All Highland Riding School Instructors have CPR/First aid certification.

Sarah Vernlund: The owner of Highland Riding school, Sarah is a USAE Level II Certified Instructor who has been a full-time instructor since 1980. Sarah joined Denville-Kanani Farms in 1988, where she trains and coaches Beginning Novice through Advanced level eventers, and instructs dressage riders through Second level.

A competitive rider since the mid 1970's, Sarah has competed in eventing at the Advanced level and has earned the USDF Bronze medal. Sarah was selected to train with the USET combined training team in the 1980's. She has trained and shown many novice-advanced eventing horses to national awards. Read more about Sarah.

Amanda Sugerman Amanda has been riding for fourteen years, and was an active pony clubber for six years, rated up through the C level. In 1998, she placed fourth at the Pony Club East Coast Championships for Knowdown (equine knowledge). Amanda competed very successfully on the hunter-jumper circuit in Connecticut, until she moved to California in 2000, when she began her dressage career at Denville-Kanani Farms. Amanda has competed and won on several different horses in dressage at first level, including her thoroughbred gelding, Justice. In 2002 she won the Pas De Deux at the CDS Junior Championships. She will be graduating from California State University, Fresno in 2007, with a degree in Equine Science.

Lucy Villegas currently rides and competes Sarah Vernlund’s mare Talis, kept at Denville-Kanani Farm. In 2006, Lucy and Talis were Training Level Champions at the Northern California Junior Dressage Championships. In 2007, they were successful yet again, placing third at First Level at Championships. Lucy has received her C-3 rating in Pony Club .

Elena Flaharty has been riding for twenty years. She graduated the United States Pony Club with an outstanding H-A rating and has received many awards in both dressage and eventing. She owns a mare named Lola, who she has been successfully competing at First and Second Level in dressage, and at Training Level in eventing.
